From the Hawarden Independent, December 21, 1939, Ireton and Vicinity news:

Met Fatal Injuries in Auto Mishap

Robert Peebles Day of Redwood Falls, Minn., a former resident of Ireton, passed away last Friday in a hospital at that place from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Everyone was shocked when it became known that he had been seriously injured in an accident and everyone was greatly saddened when word came of his death.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Redwood Falls Sunday and then his remains were brought to Ireton. His body lay in state at the Satterlee funeral home for the many relatives and friends to take one last look at the deceased. This home was formerly the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Day, parents of the deceased, and he spent many of his boyhood and early manhood days here. The long funeral cortege wended its way from there to Pleasant Hill cemetery where short services were held with Rev. Albert Miller in charge. Tenderly his body was laid to rest beside those of his parents. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.

Robert Peebles Day, son of E. R. and Adella Peebles Day, was the youngest of 14 children. He was born on a farm in Reading township, southeast of Ireton, March 10, 1895, and passed away at Redwood Falls, Minn., December 15, 1939, having attained the age of 44 years, 9 months and 5 days. Robert grew up and attended the rural schools near his home and later he came to Ireton with his parents and continued his schooling. He was united in marriage with Marion Jones of Sioux City and to this union were born three children, Mrs. Lloyd Mertz and Homer and Maxine, the two latter at home. About 20 years ago the family moved to Redwood Falls where he resided continuously since that time.

Mr. Day was greatly beloved by all who knew him. He was a man of high ideals and character, loyal to his family and friends and a faithful worker in the church and community.

Besides his widow and three children, he leaves a grandchild. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Jasper of Yakima, Wash.; James of Salt Lake City, Utah; George of Auburn, Wash.; Miss Eva Day and Ross Day of LeMars; Mrs. C. S. Bushby of Struble; Mrs. Daisy King of Sioux City; and Delbert of Ireton. There are also many other relatives and friends who extend a hand of sympathy to the bereaved.
