Mrs. Lillian Drake, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City is assisting the family.

Lillian Drake was born on July 19, 1925, the daughter of Allan and Grace Thomson. She married Alfred E. Drake, on August 26, 1947. The couple had three children, Allyson Becker of Orange City; Mark Drake of Seattle, Washington; and Donovan Drake of Nashville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Drake was a graduate of Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, and took graduate courses at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. She was the News Editor for Northwestern College in Orange City, and a feature writer and columnist for the Sioux City Journal. She was the editor for Life Along the Wabash, Vincennes Sun Commercial, Vincennes, Indiana, and a correspondent to The Republic and writer for Tricounty News and Hoosier Heartland, Edinburgh, Indiana. She wrote juvenile and adult short stories and church-related articles and poetry for state and national magazines.

Lillian was an active member of the American Reformed Church of Orange City. She served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Indiana, was the former coordinator of Columbus Peace Fellowship, volunteered at the Columbus Regional Hospital, and the past president of Flower Lane Garden Club. She was a charter member of the Vincennes League of Women Voters.

Mrs. Drake was preceded in death by her parents; her mother and father in-law, Edwin F. and Mable Drake; her brother Allan; her husband Alfred; and her two brothers-in-law, William Drake and Kenneth Rice.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to American Reformed Church.
