Mrs. Marjorie Van Ommeren, age 85, of Boyden, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Sioux Center Health.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, December 17, at 10:00am, at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. The Rev. Andrew Hilla will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Marjorie Esther was born on July 16, 1936, the daughter of Peter and Bertha (Jeltema) Kroeze. She was raised in the Maurice area, where she attended school.

She was united in marriage to Donald Van Ommeren on June 7, 1956, in Orange City. They made their home in Boyden, where they raised their six children. Once their children were grown, “Marge” did custodial work and helped in the kitchen at the elementary school in Boyden. Donald passed away on August 11, 1997, in Sheldon, after more than 41 years of marriage.

Mrs. Van Ommeren was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed decorating her home for each holiday.

Survivors include her five children, Lynn Herzog, of Hull; Barb Van Ommeren, of Orange City; Marvin Van Ommeren, and his wife, Kathy, of Owatonna, Minnesota; Pete Van Ommeren, of Melvin; and Sue, and her husband, Lonnie Ladwig, of Brandon, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Jordan Herzog; Michael and Matthew Van Ommeren; and Austin and Collin Ladwig; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Kroeze, of Orange City.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cheryl Van Ommeren; a son, Kenneth Van Ommeren; and a brother, Orville Kroeze.

Memorials may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden.
