Mrs. Henrietta Gritters, age 84, of Hull, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 11, at 10:00am, at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church. The Rev. James Laning will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Henrietta was born on January 25, 1937, on a farm near Chandler, Minnesota, the daughter of Bert and Dorothy (Bleyenburg) Brands. She grew up in rural Edgerton, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school before enrolling at Westmar College in Le Mars. After earning her teaching certificate, she returned to Edgerton and taught at the Edgerton Free Christian School.

On May 31, 1957, she was united in marriage to Egbert Matthew Gritters, in Edgerton. They made their home on a farm north of Hull, where they raised chickens. “Hennie” enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and a mother to their nine children. Egbert passed away on April 3, 2007, in Sioux Center, after more than 49 years of marriage. In 2015, she became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center.

Mrs. Gritters was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church, where she participated in the Ladies Guild and Martha Ladies Aide. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting as well as cooking and baking, often sharing something from her kitchen with those that were ill or unable to leave their home.

Survivors include her three sons and their wives, Brian and Denise Gritters and Loren and Nancy Gritters, all of Hull; and Marvin and Marcia Gritters, of Byron Center, Michigan; five daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Jim Regnerus, of Doon; Rhonda and Greg Holstege and Susan and Dave King, all of Hudsonville, Michigan; Valerie and Joel Minderhoud, of Walker, Michigan; and Sharla and Joshua Hoekstra, of Hudsonville; a son-in-law, Rick Terpstra, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; 47 grandchildren Michon (Levi) Alsum, Brittany Gritters, Shantelle (Jordan) De Boer, Rebecca Gritters, Greg (Rochelle) Gritters, Nicole (Jordan) Kooima, Allison (Zachary) Roeda, Erik Terpstra, Alex (Elizabeth) Terpstra, Karyn (Darren) Solanyk, Stephan (Tori) Regnerus, Jana Regnerus, Lanae Regnerus, Pam (Jesse) Teunissen, Ellie Regnerus, Emily (Jeremy) Cnossen, Bradley (Abigail) Gritters, Heidi Gritters, Leah Gritters, Kyle Gritters, Matthew Gritters (Gabrielle Gritters), Keith (Melissa) Gritters, Ryan (Hannah) Gritters, Daniel (Amber) Gritters, Garett (Natalie) Gritters, Brett Gritters, Michelle Holstege, Marissa Holstege, Stephanie Holstege, Jodi Holstege, Travis Holstege, Maci Holstege, Justin (Rachel) King, Caleb King, David King, Darin King, Jacob King, Micah King, Sarah King, Jared Minderhoud, Kara (Jake) Kamps, Nathan Minderhoud, Trevor Minderhoud, Emma Minderhoud, Lindsay Minderhoud, Lydia Minderhoud, Sonya Minderhoud, Kelsey Minderhoud, Michael Hoekstra, Jaydon Hoekstra, Aubrey Hoekstra, and Jonathan Hoekstra; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Ron and Sandy Brands, of Edgerton; and Robert and Phyllis Brands, of Loveland, Colorado; two sisters-in-law, Marlys Clipper, of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; and Carol Brands, of Holland, Michigan; and a brother-in-law, Lyle Gritters, of Sioux Center.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxanne Terpstra; a grandson, Jordan Gritters; a granddaughter, Crystal King; a great-grandson, Samuel Solanyk; her siblings, Gerrit Brands, Art Brands, Evert Brands, Elberta Hop, John Brands, and Harold Brands; and a sister-in-law, Muriel Gritters.

Memorials may be directed to the Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School or the Trinity Christian High School.
