Mrs. Starla Te Brink, age 58, of Alton, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, December 10, at 10:00am, at the Alton Reformed Church. The Rev. Scott Bonestroo will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Starla Ann was born on July 22, 1963, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Eugene and Anna Mae (Huisman) Schutt. She grew up with her three siblings on an acreage just outside of Hospers and attended the Floyd Valley Community Schools. Following her graduation from high school, she enrolled at the Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, where she earned her administrative assistant degree.

She was united in marriage to Paul Dean Te Brink on April 7, 1990, in Hospers. Together they made their home in Alton, where they raised their family. When she was younger, she worked as a waitress at the café in Hospers, and in more recent years was employed at Four Way Roofing in Alton and at Staples Promotional Products in Orange City.

Starla was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a LOGOS leader. She also served on the board of the Sioux Golf and Country Club in Alton. She enjoyed relaxing at home, and at Round Lake, Minnesota, often while listening to eighties rock music with a glass of her favorite wine. Starla loved being a wife and mother, but ‘Grandma Star’ was by far her favorite title, and anytime spent with her family, particularly her grandchildren, was precious to her.

Survivors include her husband of more than thirty years, Paul, of Alton; her children and their spouses, Tana and Corey Van Gorp, of Orange City; and Austin and Bobbi Te Brink, of Urbandale; three grandchildren, Jace and Kinley Van Gorp, and Mia Te Brink; her parents, Gene and Anna Mae Schutt, of Alton; her three siblings and their spouses, Sheila and Tim Hatting, of Hospers; Brian and Lisa Schutt, of Alton; and Bruce and Amy Schutt, of Orange City. She is also survived by her husband’s family including his mother, Lois Te Brink, of Orange City; his siblings and their spouses, Lloyd and Emalee Te Brink of Alton; Leah and John Krohn, of Winterset; Elizabeth and John Roberts, of Pompano Beach, Florida; Ruth and David Katt, of Alton; Dawn and Kim Wieking, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Todd and Kathy Te Brink, of St. Charles, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Dick Te Brink; and her grandparents, Matthew and Gertrude Huisman and Sam T. and Grace Schutt.

Memorials may be given to the Te Brink Family for future designation.
