Lila Ann was born on November 13, 1936, on a farm near Fairview, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Marion and Renzella (Vander Mullen) Klein. She was raised on a farm outside of Maurice, Iowa. In her younger years, she was helpful on the farm by driving a stock truck and the family 630 John Deer tractor hauling grains at a young age. She also raised and loved her chickens. She attended country school and later graduated from Maurice High School. In her high school years, she discovered her love of music while playing French Horn. Later she purchased her own marimba in which she would play for weddings and other events.

Her first job was working at the Le Mars Hollanders 5 & Dime store. She then got a job at the JC Penny store in Le Mars in the bookkeeping department. Later she was an office assistant for the Sioux County Extension Office.

She met the love of her life, Henry Kiers of Hull, and they were united in marriage on September 20, 1957, at the First Reformed Church in Maurice.

She supported Henry’s dream of opening their first business by managing all the bookkeeping and finances. They started the first Radio and TV Center in Hull in 1958, and a second store in 1972, in Sheldon, Iowa. She was part of the Hull businesses and professional clubs and was always creative in promoting events and businesses in town.

Lila was a wonderful and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and immensely proud to become a great-grandmother. She loved taking the grandchildren on camping trips, watching them swim, and cooking fun meals out of her camper. She found solace in nature and birdwatching. She loved attending the programs, concerts, and theatrical performances of her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Rick (Eleanor) Kiers, of Hull; Martin Kiers, of Hull; and Lisa (Todd) Merley, of Ashton; six grandchildren, Cody (Shelby) Kiers, Kelly (Brian) Sipma, Jerad (Emma) Kiers, Mitchell (Jennifer) Kiers, Logan Merley, and Lexie Merley; and seven great-grandchildren, Teagan, Easton, Emerson, and Atlee Sipma, and Isabelle, Abigail, and Carlie Kiers.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was proceeded in death by a brother, Clyde Klein, and sisters-in-law, Lois Klein and Gertrude Zevenbergen.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
