Loving Husband, Father, Papa, and Accomplished Estate Planning Attorney, Orlin Te Slaa’s love for life did not come to an end with his death. He passed away on May 25, 2021, in Edina, Minnesota, at the age of 63, after a courageous fight with COVID. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

There will be a visitation with the family on Friday, May 28, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, at the White Funeral Home in Burnsville, Minnesota.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, May 31, at 1:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Irwin Van Leeuwen will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will also be on Monday, from 12:00pm until service time, at the church. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Hull, Iowa, on October 26, 1957, Orlin graduated from the Western Christian High School in Hull and completed his bachelor’s degree in accounting at the Augustana University in Sioux Falls. He went on to complete his master’s degree in Public Accountancy and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Dakota School of Law in Vermillion. After graduating from law school, he began practicing at Arthur Andersen in Minneapolis and later at Gray Plant Mooty as an international estate planner. Being well known for his work with international estate planning, he became a founding shareholder in the law firm Walsten & Te Slaa, P.A., in Bloomington, Minnesota, where he had practiced for more than twenty years. Orlin took great pride in making sure his clients and their loved ones were well taken care of far into the future.

Orlin met the love of his life, Julie Schwartz, while practicing law at Krass and Monroe, P.A. Julie supported Orlin in his professional journey, as well as every other step they took in life. The simplestpleasures brought joy to Orlin. He loved to travel with his family, attend sporting events, challengehis children to be the best they could be, and support his grandchildren in their lives and adventures.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerben and Therissa (Andela) Te Slaa. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Julie; a son and his wife, Ryan and Emily Ritchie; a daughter and her husband, Brittany and Jesse Sievers; five grandchildren, Hattie, Bentley, and Asher Ritchie, and Tanner and Reveille Sievers; a sister and her husband, Helen and the Rev. Irwin Van Leeuwen; two brothers and their wives, Gaylen and Laura Te Slaa and Terril and Lori Te Slaa; along with nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be given to the Western Christian School in Hull.
