Translated:
A sad accident took place in Alton last Wednesday. Jan Bart Sleeve, who lived some miles north of Orange City, had gone to the mill at Alton with a load of wheat. For some reason, however, no one seems to know how, the horses got choked up and started to run away while the wagon was just about over the dump. hitting the head, so that he was immediately dead. His wife and seven children, the youngest only a few weeks old, are left to mourn his death.
The deceased was a cousin of J. and B. Mouw over here. The funeral took place on Friday from the Chr. Ref. Church in Orange City, where he held the office of deacon for many years. Several family connections from here were there.
