Mrs. Bessie Brunsting, age 97, of Hull, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.

There will be a graveside service on Thursday, December 10, at 2:00pm, at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. The Rev. Harlan De Jong will officiate. Visitation without the family will be on Thursday, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. There will be a memorial service this coming spring at the First Reformed Church in Hull.

Bessie Mae was born on May 19, 1923, in rural George, the daughter of Jake and Minnie (Faas) Koele. She was raised in the George area where she was the president of her class at George High School.

She was united in marriage to Gerald Oscar Brunsting on January 18, 1944, on her parents’ farm east of Hull. They made their home on a farm near Hull until 1987, when they moved into Hull. Gerald passed away on October 24, 2014, in Hull, after more than seventy years of marriage.

Mrs. Brunsting was a member of the First Reformed Church in Hull, where she served in several offices of the Reformed Church Women and taught Sunday School for 32 years. She also was a volunteer at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, and enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, baking, and visiting with her friends and family.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Sharon and Luverne Bultje, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Roger and Rachael Brunsting, of Orange City; and Clifford and Debra Brunsting, of Mesa, Arizona; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Randi Bultje (Mason, Tessa, Breanna), Galen and Tua Bultje (Anavie), Terry and Kari Bultje (Kaitlyn, Trevor), Michael and Amy Brunsting (Mitchell, Raegen, Brooklyn, Macenzie and Dillon, Jaron, Cael), Kelly and Rachel Brunsting (Kyan, Kobe), Melissa and Justin Ruden, Carissa and Austin Janssen (Levi, Ty, Lennon), Candace and Blayne Van Marel (Palmer, Blakely, Loghan, Crew, Ezra), Alicia and Matt Plathe (Owen, Olivia), and Rebekah Kuiken, Cory and Stephanie Brunsting, and Holly and Vince Moreno (Colt); three sisters-in-law, Betty Brunsting, of Hull; Lyneen Brunsting, of Charles City; and Trudy Brunsting, of Seal Beach, California; and a brother-in-law, Bill Plantage, of Sheldon.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Lee Bultje; a sister, Bessie, at age three; five brothers and their wives, Henry and Sophia Koele, Dewey and Jeanette and Esther Koele, Edward and Alice Koele, John and Carrie Koele, and Benjamin and Henrietta Koele; five brothers-in-law, Ed Brunsting, and his first wife, Shirley, Ted Brunsting, and his first wife, Leona, Harvey Brunsting, and his wife Nellie, Vernon Brunsting, and his wife, Elvina, and Alvin Brunsting; and a sister-in-law, Ann Plantage.

Memorials may be directed to the First Reformed Church or the Happy Siesta Care Center.
