Erma Fick, age 94, of Hull, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a private family funeral service on Wednesday, December 9, at 10:30am, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull. The Rev. Aaron Deutsch will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the St John Lutheran Cemetery in rural Boyden. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements.

Erma was born on May 22, 1926, on a farm northeast of Hull. She was the youngest of eight children born to J.H. Henry and Magdalena (Beckman) Breuer and was baptized on June 21, 1926 at the St Paul Lutheran Church north of Hull. She grew up in rural Hull and attended the Sheridan Township Country School. She made profession of her faith at St Paul’s on April 21, 1940.

She was united in marriage to Rudolf Fick on February 14, 1947, at St. Paul’s. They first made their home on a farm near Boyden, and later near Rock Rapids. In 1963, they were able to purchase their own farm northwest of Hull, where they raised their family. In 1985, Rudy and Erma retired and moved to Hull. Rudy passed away on October 12, 2009, after more than 62 years of marriage, and in July of 2016, Erma became a resident of the Pleasant Acers Care Center.

Erma was a long-time member of the St Paul Lutheran Church where she spent many years teaching Sunday school, participated in Bible studies, and held numerous positions within the church’s womens’ groups. She also wrote scripts for Christian Women Speak, a local radio program, and was a devoted prayer warrior for her children, grandchildren, and extended family and friends.

Erma taught herself to play the piano at a young age and enjoyed music throughout her life. In earlier years, she and Rudy were able to travel within the United States as well as overseas, making many acquaintances along the way. She also looked forward to preparing and serving meals for her family and friends.

She was very proud of her family including her four sons and their spouses, Earl and Ethel Fick, of Hull; Ruben and Jean Fick, of Rock Rapids; Orlin and Amy Fick, of Harrisburg, South Dakota; and Dale and Diane Fick, of Doon; twelve grandchildren, Denise (Mike) Horkey, Dawn (Matt) De Witt, Dorinda (Brian) Oostenink, Ryan (Amber) Fick, Kristin (Cory) Wellnitz, Megan (Owen) Postma, Robert Fick, Andrew Fick, Jonathan (Kendra) Fick, Bruce (Courtney) Fick, Brooke (Collin) Schroeder, and Dana Fick; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son; four brothers, Henry Breuer, Herman Breuer, Emil Breuer, and Walter Breuer; and three sisters, Katie Tiedemann, Ella Techen, and Martha Hansmann.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St Paul Lutheran Church.
