There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at 10:00am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Loren Kotman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Viewing will be on Tuesday, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull and the family will receive guests from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at their home in Hull.

Garrett T was born on June 24, 1946, in Hull, the son of Timon G and Adrianna (Van Dyk) Roetman. He grew up in Hull where he attended the Hull Christian School and Western Christian High School. Following his graduation in 1964, he enrolled at Dordt College in Sioux Center where he met a young woman from California, Susan Reneé Vander Linde.

Gary and Susan were united in marriage on September 3, 1971, in Redlands, California. They made their home in Hull, where Gary worked for a construction company until 1977, when he accepted a sales position for D&S Chevrolet in Hull. In 1995, he purchased the dealership and renamed it Roetman Chevrolet. In late 2000, Gary and Susan moved to Rancho Mirage, California, where he worked in sales for the Marriott Vacation Club. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015, he and Susan returned to Hull so they could be closer to their children and grandchildren. For the past five years, Gary has enjoyed working as a school bus driver for the Hull Protestant Reformed Christian School.

Garrett was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed horses and had an appreciation for classic cars. He often spent time working with the Western Christian Booster Club and played a big part in the planning and construction of the baseball and softball complex. He loved sports and loved watching his children and grandchildren participate. Garrett was a loving husband and thoroughly enjoyed being a dad, grandpa, and bus driver for the kids and families of the Hull Protestant Reformed School. He had a great memory and if you needed to know where somebody lived, he could tell you. He was typically seen around town in one of his beach print shirts and shorts, regardless of the weather.

Survivors include his wife of more than 48 years, Susan, of Hull; three sons and their families, Timothy and Nicole Roetman, and their children, Sophia and Gage, all of Urbandale; Michael and Alissa Roetman, and their children, Leyton, Reagan, Ryer, and Emmett, all of Sioux Center; and Matthew and Briana Roetman, and their children, Briggs, Willa, Hattie, and Hewitt, all of Hull; a son-in-law, Jeffery De Jongh, and his children, Anna, Beau, Mandi, and Jaelyn, all of Hull; and a sister, Patricia Ann Roetman, of Cathedral City, California.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carrie Ann De Jongh; and a brother, James T Roetman.
