Funeral services for Emerson R. Lucas were held at 2:00 p.m., June 6, 1996 at the American Reformed Church, Primghar. Rev. Mark Volkers officiated.
“The Love of God” was sung by Henry and Alvina Van Heuvelen, and hymns “How Great Thou Art” and “To God Be The Glory” were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Linda Walvoord. Ushers were Doug Walvoord and Ralph Fjeld. Casket bearers were Dave Lucas, Larry Heemstra, Evert Reuvers, Loren Kreykes, Dennis Heemstra and John Prins. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Primghar with arrangements under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home, Primghar.
Emerson Roy Lucas, the son of Arie and Minnie Beltman Lucas, was born May 8, 1918 at Alton. He moved with his family to the Sheldon area where he received his education. He moved to California in 1937 and on May 29, 1942 he was united in marriage to Waltera Haalboom in Los Angeles, Ca. The couple returned to the Sheldon area in 1945 and began farming and in 1954 moved to a farm northeast of Primghar where the couple farmed until their retirement in 1984. He passed away on Monday, June 3, 1996 at the Baum-Harmon Memorial Hospital in Primghar after being stricken at his home, reaching the age of 78 years and 25 days.
He was a member of the American Reformed Church in Primghar and had served as an elder, deacon and taught Sunday School.
Emerson leaves to cherish his memory his wife Waltera of Primghar; one son, Larry and his wife Toni Lucas of Las Vegas, Nv.; one daughter, Helen Lucas of Primghar; four grandchildren, Tiffany, Justin, Heather and Lisa; three brothers, Bill Lucas of Brookings, S.D., Howard Lucas of Sheldon and Adrian Lucas of Ames; three sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Postma and Mrs. Lois Kreykes, both of Sheldon and Mrs. Emma Pesaresi of St. George, Ks.; also a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
