Mrs. Delores De Boer, age 86, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, July 22, at 2:00pm, at the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Todd De Rooy will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Delores Carol was born on December 7, 1933, in Lebanon, Iowa, the daughter of William Gerrit and Sena (Rensink) Vreeman. She was raised in Sheldon, where she graduated from the Sheldon High School. She then worked at the Farmers Coop Elevator in Sheldon as a bookkeeper.

On January 14, 1955, she married Harvey John De Boer in Sheldon. They made their home in numerous communities in northwest Iowa. In 1957, they moved to Artesia, California, where Delores was a homemaker. In 1961, they moved back to northwest Iowa and farmed until 1967, when they moved to Orange City. She then worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at the Heritage House Nursing Home and as a Home Health Aide for many years. Harvey passed away on February 3, 2020, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after more than 65 years of marriage.

Delores was a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church. Together, she and Harvey were foster parents for numerous children, and from 2000 to 2013, they were active with SOWERS (Servants on Wheels Ever Ready). In later years, she participated in the Senior Companions program. She cherished her time with family and enjoyed having coffee with her friends at Hardees and Subway.

Survivors include her six children, Carla Drost, of Sheldon, IA; Paula, and her husband, Martin Top, of Alton, IA; Harlan De Boer, and his wife, Michele, of Pella; Denise Tifft, of Sioux Falls, SD; James De Boer, and his wife, Shelly, of Yankton, SD; and Darrell De Boer, and his wife, Jody, of Smithville, MO; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Peters, of Sheldon, IA, and Marlene Bowers, and her husband, Julius Damstra, of Rock Rapids, IA; three sisters-in-law, Ruby Janssen, of Sibley, IA; Linda Van’t Hul, of Sheldon, IA; and Lucille Van Der Linden, of Luverne, MN; and a brother-in-law and his wife, James and Bernice De Boer, of Orange City, IA.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerrit Vreeman, Howard Vreeman, and Kenneth Vreeman, and his wife Trudy; and three brothers-in-law, Kenneth Peters, Cliff De Boer, and his wife, Bernice, and Henry Van Der Linden.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Christian School.
