From the Sioux County Capital, November 25, 1937, Garfield Township news:
Melvin Anderson passed away in the Hudson Community hospital from a lingering illness. He had been a patient in the hospital for the past nine months. Mr. Anderson spent most of his life in Garfield township. A few years ago he and his family moved to a farm west of Hudson. He leaves to mourn him his wife and twelve children, two brothers and four sisters.

FindaGrave.com has Casper Melvin Anderson, born 11 Feb 1881 in Sioux County, Iowa; died 16 Nov 1937 in Lincoln County, SD; buried in Eden Cemetery, Hudson, Lincoln County, SD. Parents Peter A. Anderson (1844-1923) and Christina Necolina Olson Anderson (1850-1904). Seven siblings listed. Spouse Clara R. Anderson (1897-1995). One child listed: Sylvia Y. Anderson Spelhaug (1923-2014). There is a photo of his and his wife’s joint headstone (he as C. Melvin).
The 1900 U.S. census for Norway Township, Lincoln County, South Dakota shows Melvin Anderson, age 19, born Feb. 1881 in Iowa, parents born in Norway, working as a farm laborer for Peter Hanson and his family. The 1910 census shows him as Casper M. Anderson, age 29, working as an odd jobs laborer in Roseland, South Dakota. The 1920 census for Garfield Township, Sioux County, shows him as Melvin C. Anderson, age 28, a farmer, with wife Clara C. (22) and children Palmer O. (2-8/12) and Selma E. (1-0/12), both born in Iowa.
In the 1930 census, as Kasper M. Anderson (49), he is again living in Norway Township, on his own farm, with wife Clara (33), and children Palmer O. (12), Selma E. (11), Clarence R. (9), Luella A. (7), Sylvia Y. (6), Melvin C. (3), and Sidney E. (1-11/12), all born in Iowa.
His South Dakota marriage record has husband C. M. Anderson, age 35, resident of Hudson; wife Clara R. Loe, age 19, resident of Hudson; married at Sioux Falls June 12, 1916.
His World War I draft registration card (Sept. 1918) gives his full name, Casper Melvin Anderson, resident of Route 3, Hudson, S.D., farmer, born Feb. 11, 1881; nearest relative Clara R. Anderson; medium height, stout build, blue eyes, brown hair.
