From the Sioux Center News, November 4, 1937:

DEATH CLAIMS FORMER SIOUX CENTER RESIDENT

After an illness of more than three years, death came to John Vander Hope of Redlands, Calif. on Oct. 27th. John was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Vander Hoep[sic] of Holland, Mich. They were formerly residents for a good many years in Sioux Center where Mr. Vander Hope was a clerk in the Arendsen and Postma store. He has a wide acquaintance in this community. It is some fifteen years ago since they moved to Holland where the elder Mr. Vander Hope works in a furniture store.

Deceased is survived by his wife, parents, and three brothers, Ben, Gerrit and James. The remains were shipped here for the funeral which was held Monday at the First Ref. church with Rev. Brunsting and Rev. Dykstra officiating.

Here for the final rites were the deceased’s parents, his wife, Mrs. John Vander Hope of Redlands, and Mr. and Mrs. James Vander Hope, Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Vander Hope and Ben Vander Hope all of Redlands, Calif.

A briefer obituary in the Alton Democrat, November 5, 1937, Sioux Center news, adds that his parents conducted a general store in Sioux Center for some years, and says that his brother James lives in Holland, Michigan.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1920/1921 has groom John Van der Hoop, age 21, resident of Sioux Center, a farmer, born in Sioux Center, parents Egbert Van der Hoop and Minnie De Langen; bride Aleida R. Remmerde, age 17, resident of Rock Valley, born in Rock Valley, father John Remmerde; married at Sioux Center Nov. 19, 1920.
