LUCY VAN DER WEGE

Lucy Van Der Wege, 74, died Sunday, Sept. 8, in Zeeland Community Hospital following a lingering illness. She was born in Ireton, Iowa, moved in 1943 to Holland [Michigan] where she married Cornelius Van Der Wege. He died in 1981. She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church and the Adult Sunday School Class.

A son, Gerrit De Boer, died in April this year. Surviving are a son, Cornelius (Cork) Van Der Wege of Holland, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gary (Maurine) De Boer of Wichita, Kan.; grandchildren, Greg, Brad and Abbie Vande Wege and Niki, Kipp, Tad and Stacy De Boer; four brothers , Richard Zomermaand of Orange City, Iowa; Henry Zomermaands of Sioux Center, Iowa; Gerrit Zomermaand of Struble, Iowa, and John Zomermaand of Holland; eight sisters, Mrs. Peter (Jennie) Droog of Jenison, Mrs. Opke (Henrietta) Niemeyer of In wood, Iowa, Mrs. Bert (Ann) Van De Wege of Zeeland, Mrs. Gerrit (Alice) Topp of Ceritos, Calif., Mrs. Martin (Nellie) Mesman of Ripon, Calif., Mrs. William (Rolena) Wissink of Ankeny, Iowa, Mrs. Case (Albertha) Van Hofwegen of Edgerton, Minn., and Mrs. John (Hattie) Boeve of Visalia, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Bert (Pearl) Zomermaand of Rock Valley, Iowa.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dykstra Northwood Chapel with the Rev. Alan Hofland officiating. Burial was in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Heart or Cancer fund.

LUCY VAN DER WEGE

Lucy Van Der Wege, 74, died Sunday morning September 8 in the Community Hospital in Zeeland, Michigan after a lingering illness. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 11 at the Dykstra Northwood Chapel, Holland, Michigan with Rev. Hofland officiating. Family visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Dykstra Funeral Home.

Lucy (Zommermand, De Boer) Van Der Wege was born near Ireton, Iowa on December 31, 1910. She married Gerrit De Boer January 14, 1937. He died on October 9, 1937. A son Gerrit De Boer Jr., born November 3, 1937, died April 29, 1985 with cancer.

She moved to Holland, Michigan in 1943 and married Cornelius Van Der Wege September 27, 1944. He died March 23, 1981. She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church and Adult Sunday school class of Holland.
