FUNERAL FOR JAKE VAN ROEKEL HELD MONDAY---DIES THURSDAY AT AGE OF 65

Funeral services were held at the Netherlands Reformed Church here at 1:30 P.M. Monday for Jake van Roekel, 65, retired farmer and a resident of this area since 1920, who died Thursday morning at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services were conducted by the Reverend C. Hegeman and burial was made in the Sioux Center Community Cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg’s Funeral Home.

A brief service attended by members of the immediate family was held at the Funeral Home immediately preceding the service at the Church.

Mr. van Roekel was born November 18, 1896, in The Netherlands and grew to young manhood there. He was married in Holland September 28, 1918 to Netta Beukhof, and two years later the couple moved to Iowa. Mrs. van Roekel died in 1956 and Mr. van Roekel moved to Sioux Center about two years ago from a farm near Alvord, Iowa.

Survivors include six sons, Joe and Cornie, both of Sioux Center; Tony of Rock Rapid, Iowa; John of Steen, Minnesota; Jake of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and William of Gloverville, New York; a daughter, Mrs. William Klarenbeek of Rock Valley; six brothers, William of Doon and five in The Netherlands; seven sisters, Mrs. E.J. Van Egdom and Mrs. H. Aarsen, both of Orange City, Mrs. M.J. Pitlo of Hull and four sisters in The Netherlands; also 21 grandchildren.
