From the Rock Valley Bee, October 22, 1937:

Gerrit De Boer Died Early Tuesday Morning, October 19

Gerrit De Boer, twenty-six years old, died in the Hudson hospital, at 5:00 A.M. Tuesday morning, following an operation about two weeks earlier.

Mr. De Boer was united in marriage to Lucy Zomermaand in January, 1937. Besides his wife, he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. De Boer, who reside west of Rock Valley, besides many other relative and friends. The bereaved family has the sincere sympathy of the community.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon, October 21, at 1:00 o’clock in the home, and at 2:00 o’clock in the Christian Reformed church, with Rev. Gritter, pastor of the church, and Rev. H. J. Aberson, pastor of the First Reformed church, officiating.

GERRIT DE BOER

Gerrit De Boer of Rock Valley passed away at the Hudson, S.D. hospital on Tuesday morning, October 19 at 5:00 a.m. Mr. De Boer recently underwent an operation for gall trouble.

Gerrit De Boer was twenty six years old. He spent his entire life in the vicinity of Rock Valley and Inwood. He had many friends who were sorry to hear of his serious illness and death. He was united in marriage with Miss Lucy Zommermaand in January 1937 and resided on a farm southwest of Rock Valley.

Mr. De Boer is survived by his widow and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Klaas De Boer, and several brothers and sisters. One brother Gerrit preceded him in death four years ago.

[Information on funeral services.] Burial was made at the cemetery at Inwood, Iowa.

YOUNG ROCK VALLEY MAN DIES IN HUDSON HOSPITAL

Tragedy visited the home of a young couple living on a farm near Rock Valley Tuesday when Gerrit De Boer, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Klaas De Boer, also living near Rock Valley, passed away at the Hudson, S.D. hospital following an illness of sixteen days. The young man had been suffering from ulcers of the stomach for some time and was taken to the hospital about two and a half weeks ago. He was operated [on] last week but gradually lost in his fight to regain strength, and passed away on Tuesday, October 19.

He is survived by his grief-stricken wife who is an expectant mother, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Klaas De Boer, two brothers, John and Frank of Rock Valley, one sister, Elizabeth of Rock Valley and another sister, Mrs. John Meerbeek of Lebanon, and a host of relatives on his mother’s side, among them Mrs. Maas Van Beek of Sioux Center, who is a sister to the widow.

Child Gerrit De Boer (1937-1985).

The Letters of Administration appointing his father as administrator of his estate calls him Gerrit K. De Boer.
