From the Sioux County Capital, July 31, 1941:

Mrs. Raymond De Weerd passed away Friday afternoon, July 25, at 1:15 in an Orange City hospital at the age of 30 years and 2 months. Her death was caused by paralysis and complications.

Mrs. De Weerd was born May 25, 1911 at Hull and was the former Grace Leusink, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leusink. May 16, 1929 she was united in marriage to Raymond De Weerd at Hull. They lived 8 years in Hull, 1 year in Ireton and moved to Orange City in December 1940.

Mrs. De Weerd became ill with paralysis the last week in August, 1940 after suffering a fall. She was in Iowa City for 2 months and later she was taken to the home of Mrs. Cora Vander Sluis who cared for her until April 26 of this year. Then she was home for a while and was taken to the hospital 5 weeks ago.

Survivors include her husband; 5 children: John Henry, 11 years, Trina, 10 years, Henry, 7, Harriet Jane, 2 and Charles Peter, 1˝ years; her parents and 9 brothers and sisters: Henrietta, Mrs. John Driesen of Hull; Peter, Hattie, Gerrit J., Wm., Gertie, Catherine, Gerrit Henry, and Jeanette, all of Orange City.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at 10 o’clock at the home and at 10:30 in the First Reformed Church with Rev. Mr. H. Colenbrander and Rev. Mr. Aalberts of Ireton in charge. Burial was made in the Orange City cemetery.

Briefer obituaries were published in the Sioux County Index (Hull), August 1, and the Sioux Center News, July 31. Both of these obits specify her illness as being infantile paralysis.

She does not appear in the Sioux County Cemetery Index, but does have a FiindaGrave.com page, showing her buried in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City. It gives her parents as Hendrik Jan Leusink (1873-1956) and Kate Vis Leusink (1882-1953).
