George L. Venard, former state legislator from Sioux County, died Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Harold King, Settle, Washington where Mr. Venard had gone to spend the winter. He was 78 years old.

Mr. Venard was born in Scott County, Iowa, and had lived near Hawarden for 38 years. He was a farmer and had served five terms as Sioux County Representative in the legislature.

Survivors include six children, one of whom is Mrs. Willard Greene, Sioux City. His wife Bertha (Bell) Venard, died two years ago.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church here Thursday. He will be laid to rest at Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Iowa.
