From the Alton Democrat, December 18, 1936, Hull news:

A telegram came to Hull Monday noon telling about the death of Oscar De Roos who died at Riverside, Calif. where he was employed in the sheet metal factory. He is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew De Roos who reside in Portland, Oregon. He was born and raised in Hull where they have lived for several years. About two years ago the Andrew De Roos family moved to Portland, Oregon.

From the Sioux County Index (Hull), December 18, 1936:

Ora Carl De Roos Died at Riverside After Short Illness

Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gorzeman received a telegram Monday, informing them that a nephew, Ora Carl DeRoos, had passed away at Riverside, California, after a three days illness. Mrs. Dick De Koster received an air mail letter the same day from Mrs. John Semmens, nee Jeanette De Koster, telling her that Ora Carl had died. His illness was tonsillitis and it affected his heart.

Ora Carl was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew De Roos, who now live in Portland, Oregon. Ora Carl made his home with Mr. and Mrs. John Semmens Sr. at Riverside, California, while he worked in a sheet metal factors. He had visited in Hull, October last.

Mr. and Mrs. John Semmens Sr. took charge and sent the body to Oregon.
The many friends of the De Roos family sympathize with them in their bereavement.

The California Death Index has Ora C. Deroos, died at Riverside, California, 14 Dec 1936, age 21.

The 1930 U.S. census shows the De Roos family living in Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Andrew (39), a commercial traveler for a biscuit company, wife Mina (38), and children Louis E. (18), Ora Carl (14), and Andrew W. (5). In 1920 the family was living in Hull.

The 1925 Iowa state census shows Ora’s parents as Andrew De Roos (son of O. De Roos and Tryntje Van der Stoep) and Mina Van de Berg (daughter of John Van de Berg and Wilhelmina Kastein).
