Death of Aged Doon Resident

Chris Flitch, 76 year old bachelor, was found dead in his bed at the W. E. Klein home, early Monday morning, August 17. He had been in failing health for about two years, and from all appearances he was feeling fully as well as usual all day Sunday and until late that night, when he retired, hence when members of the Klein family found him dead in bed the following morning it was quite a shock.

Funeral services for Mr. Flitch were held Wed., August 19, 1936, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, at the W. E. Klein home, and at 2:30 o’clock in the afternoon, at the Congregational church. Burial was made in the Doon cemetery in the Flitch family lot. Rev. Carl Bast, pastor of the Congregational church at Rock Rapids, officiated at the services.—Doon.

RESEARCH NOTES

A brief obituary was also published in the Hawarden Independent (August 27), adding that all the members of his immediate family had preceded him in death.

His death certificate gives his birth date as March 22, 1860 in Switzerland; parents John Flitch and Anna Lucke; resident of the U.S. 63 years and of Doon 22 years; a retired laborer; informant Mrs. N. E. Klein; died August 17, 1936 of epilepsy.
