She was born on October 9, 1936 on a farm near Merrill, IA, the daughter of Arthur and Marguerite (Hoffmann) Newman. She attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Liberty Consolidated High School. She worked at American Letter Company for a year and then was a telephone operator in Sioux City.

She was united in marriage to Vincent Klein on January 17, 1959 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale, IA. They lived on a farm east of Hospers.

Marilyn was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she was actively involved throughout her life. She was a Hospice, Befriender and teacher’s aide volunteer. She loved her Bible studies. She also was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading, baking and jigsaw puzzles. Her potato salad was a well- known favorite for many, and she loved animals, especially dogs. In all aspects of her life, Marilyn’s faith was evident.

Friends and especially family were very important to Marilyn. She treasured each relationship and valued spending time with those she loved. Marilyn’s great generosity was a gift to many from baking cakes for church occasions and making cinnamon rolls and potato salad to sharing her garden full of produce and pumpkins and handing out popcorn balls to trick or treaters. Marilyn shared what she had and who she was with everyone. She will be missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her six children: Darryl (Susan) Klein of Hospers; Deb (Don) Burwitz of Larchwood, IA; Dave (Janet) Klein of Hospers; Fr. Doug Klein of Sioux Center, IA; Jim (Mary) Klein of Le Mars, IA; Linda (Jim) Daskiewicz of Omaha, NE; twenty grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who gave her much joy; one brother Ken (Pat) Newman; sisters Shirley Morrissey (John Ashmore); Bernie Boland; Arlene Jones; her brothers-in-law Martin (Peggy) Hildreth; Bob McCoy; Art Klein; sister-in law, Aggie (Leo) Vortherms; as well as many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vince; son, Dennis; and sisters Kathleen Hildreth and Phyllis Hindman and several in-laws.
