Ivan Pennings, age 69, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Ava Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Paul Van Maaren officiating.

Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 12, from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Ivan Dale Pennings was born on September 19, 1950 in Orange City, Iowa. He was the son of Adrian and Gertrude “Coba” (Mars) Pennings. Ivan lived on a farm outside of Sheldon, Iowa in his younger years until his family moved into Sheldon. Ivan graduated from Sheldon High School with special awards for his membership and activities in Future Farmers of America (FFA). After graduation, Ivan worked at Northwest Iowa Workshop where he met Jan. They were united in marriage at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa on August 30, 1975.They lived in Sheldon where Ivan worked for local family farmers and friends until the late 1990’s when he had to quit for health reasons.
Ivan enjoyed being outside either farming, camping, or sitting by the fire. He enjoyed eating many different foods, especially his M & M’s and chocolate. He enjoyed being with all of his family including his brothers, sisters, in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved old cars and collecting John Deere memorabilia. Ivan’s greatest joy was his fellowship with the Lord and his love for Christ. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon.
He passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 44 years, Jan Pennings of Sheldon, IA; son, John (Alicia) Pennings of Ashton, IA and their children, Tara (Kyle) Doyle, Dana Pennings, Jennifer Mangel, Connor Murphy; daughter, Kimberley (Jerry) Murra of Ireton, IA and their children, Megan (Nathan) Ray and their children, Aiden and Chloe, James Murra, Samantha Murra; sisters, Marlene (Allan) VandeKamp, Leona (Vernon) VandeKamp, Ada Geels, Helen Bajema, Irene (Curtis) Van Oort, Deanne Pennings, Sheila Jones; sisters-in-law, Pat Noethe, Mary Gibbons, Barb Nilles; brother-in-law, Joel (Linda) Gibbons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jerica Leeanne Sullens; sister, Julianna Vander Pol; brother, Henry “Hank” Pennings; brothers-in-law, Robert Bajema, Robert Geels, Gerard “Jerry” Vander Pol, Daniel Gibbon, Jack Noethe; sisters-in-law, Wendy Wilson, Marlene Pennings.
