Mrs. J. Van Eizenga Dies In San Diego

Mrs. Jacob J. Van Eizenga died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1950 at her home at San Diego, Calif. at the age of 85. She had been ailing since November, 1949.

Mrs. Van Eizenga came to America 56 years ago with her husband and two sons. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1938. Mr. Van Enziga preceded her in death in 1940.

She is survived by three children, Hessel J. of Orange City, John J. and Gertrude, both of San Diego, 2 grandsons and 2 great grandchildren. Burial was at her husband’s side in a mausoleum at San Diego.

Mr. Van Eizenga was founder of the Van Eizenga Lumber Co., and the family were prominent early residents at Orange City. The couple moved to California some years ago.

An obituary in the Sioux County Capital, January 26, 1950, adds that death was due to old age and complications; that she was buried in the Greenwood Mausoleum; that they moved west about 20 years ago; and that Miss Gertrude has been living with her mother.

Family tree information on Ancestry.com gives her name as Antje Hessels Postma; born 3 Oct 1864 in Kimswerd, Netherlands; parents unknown; husband Jacob Jans van Eizenga (1864-1940); children Jan Jacobs van Eizenga (1889-1978), Hessel Jacob Van Eizenga (1891-1972), and Gertrude A. Van Eizenga (1903-1993); came to the U.S. in 1893; died 18 January 1950 in San Diego County, California.
