MARION LEONARD VANDER BRAKE DIES
After suffering from Hodgkins disease for a long time, 6 year old Marion Vander Brake was taken by death at the home of his mother, Mrs. L. Vander Brake. Survivors are his mother and two brothers, Russell and Robert. His father preceded him in death in 1931. Funeral services were held Wed. at the First Ref. Church with Rev. L. A. Brunsting in charge of the services.

From the Sioux County Capital, July 9, 1936:
M. Leonard Vande Brake, the young son of Mrs. Lane Vande Brake, died at his home in Sioux Center early Monday morning from Hodgkin’s disease. The little fellow was about six years old. Funeral services were held in Sioux Center Wednesday.

Maandag morgen is Leen Junior, zes jaren oud zoontje van Mrs. L. van de Brake, aan Hodgskins Disease, een ziekte die de klieren aantast en waarven de dokters niet geheel op de hoogte zijn, overleden. Vier jaar geleden overleed Mr. L. van de Brake aan dezelfde ziekte.
TRANSLATION:
Monday morning Leen Junior, six year old son of Mrs. L. van de Brake, died of Hodgskins Disease, a disease that affects the glands and that the doctors can do little about. Four years ago Mr. L. van de Brake died of the same disease.

His death certificate has Marion Leonard Vande Brake (originally Vander, with the “r” crossed out); born January 12, 1930 in Sioux Center; parents Leonard Van de Brake and Mary Borgman, both born in Sioux County; died at 5:45 p.m. July 6, 1936; cause Hodgkin’s disease or granuloma, onset January 1933; contributory causes, asthenia and pressure symptoms; cervical[?] gland removed Feb. 1933.
