JNO. HOFF, SR., DOON, PASSES AWAY
Jno. Hoff Sr, 67, a retired farmer, passed away at his home in Doon Saturday evening. He was born in the Netherlands and came to America when 17. Before moving to Doon, he lived in Sioux Center. His survivors are his wife, daughter and 3 sons. Funeral services were held on Wednesday in the Hull Ref. Church, Rev. Douwstra in charge. Interment took place in Sioux Center.

Old Time Hullite Died at Home in Doon, Saturday
John Hoff Sr., an old time Hull resident, died at his home in Doon Saturday, July 4th, from cancer with which he had been suffering for years.
Mr. Hoff was sixty-five years old and besides his wife he is survived by four children: John of Matlock, Henry of Doon, Arend of Sioux Center, and Mrs. John Valentine of Rock Rapids; and one grandchild.
The funeral was held from the First Reformed Church at Hull on Wednesday, conducted by Rev. G. H. Douwstra, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Sioux Center.

His death certificate gives his birth date as October 8, 1868 in the Netherlands; parents Jno. Hoff and Helen Noteboom; a retired farmer; wife Jennie Hoff; resident of Doon 1 year 3 months; died there at 10:30 p.m. July 4, 1936; cause, carcinoma of stomach, onset 1934.
His FindaGrave.com page gives his parents as John Hoff (1841-1913) and Heiltje Nooteboom Hoff (1838-1900); siblings Arie Nootenboom (1857-1925), Cornelius Hoff (1870-1940), and Neeltje Hoff Cleveringa (1879-1919); wife Jennie Wiersma Hoff (1876-1956).
The 1900 U.S. census for Welcome Township, Sioux County has John Hof, age 31, born Oct. 1868 in Holland, immigrated 1886, naturalized, a farmer who owns his farm, married 3 years; wife Jennie, age 24, born April 1876 in Holland, immigrated 1878; and farm laborer Garret Juffer (22).
In 1920 they are living and farming in Garfield Township, Lyon County with children John (19), Anna (17), Aaron (10), and Henry (3-9/12). John’s immigration year is given as 1883 and Jennie’s as 1882; they were both naturalized in 1890.
In 1930 John 61, retired farmer), Jennie (55), Arend (20, a drug store clerk), and Henry (13) are living in a rented house Doon. This census gives John’s immigration year as 1886, an alien, and Jennie’s as 1883, naturalized.
