FORMER HULL RESIDENT DIES IN CALIFORNIA
Word was received in Hull Monday of the death of Mrs. John Plender of Bellflower, Calif. Mrs. Plender died at her home after suffering from severe headaches for about three weeks. Surviving Mrs. Plender are her husband, two sons, Ralph and John and three daughters, Wilma (Mrs. Dykstra), Louise and Janette, all living in Bellflower. Mr. Peter Teune of Lester, Ia. left Sunday by bus for Bellflower when he received word of his sister’s death. The Plender family left Hull about nine years ago when they moved to Bellflower.

Mrs. John Plender Died Sat. at Bellflower, Calif.
Relatives and friends in Hull received the sad news of the death of Mrs. John Plender at Bellflower, California, at 7 o’clock, Saturday evening, July 11. Mrs. Plender had been suffering with nervous disorder for several months. The Plender family formerly resided on a farm near Hull….

News from Ripon, California in De Volksvriend, July 23, 1936 (in Dutch) says that Mr. and Mrs. Kriek received a sad message from Hynes that Mrs. Plender died suddenly. She had been sick, but on Saturday seemed a little better, but then a blood vessel broke in her head and nothing could be done, so she died that evening.

The California Death Index has Minnie Plender, died 11 July 1936, age 57, Los Angeles County, California.
Her FindaGrave.com page has her as Winnie Wiechertje Teune Plender. born 22 Aug 1878 in Kampen, Overijssel, Netherlands; died 11 July 1936 in Compton, Los Angeles County; buried in Artesia Cemetery, Cerritos, Los Angeles County. Spouse John Ralph Plender (1882-1962, married 1907). Photo of her headstone: “Mother, Winnie Plender, 1878-1936.”
The 1910 U.S. census shows the family living in Lincoln Township, Sioux County: John, age 27, born in Holland, a farmer, immigrated 1907, married three years; wife Wichertje, age 31, born in Holland, immigrated 1907, mother of 1 child; son Roelof, age 1-2/12, born in Iowa. In the 1915 Iowa state census the family is still living in Lincoln Township. In 1920 John and Wickertje are living in Larchwood Township, Lyon County, still farming, both naturalized in 1917, with four children, Ralph (10), John L. (8), Wilhelmina (5), and Louisa (1-0/12).
In the 1925 census they are back in Lincoln Township with a fifth child, Jenett (3). Her name is given as Winnie and her parents as John Tune and Pol Lubbaretz. In 1930 the family lives in Bellflower, Downey Township, Los Angeles County, where John is a dairyman and Ralph is working for him as a milker.
