JOHN A. PARKINSON DEAD

John A. Parkinson, a former Rock Valley resident for many years, died at his home in Minneapolis Friday, according to message received here. No particulars were given, but it is presumed that he died suddenly, as no one knew of his being sick. He visited Rock Valley just a few weeks ago and seemed as well as usual.

Mr. Parkinson was one of the early settlers of this vicinity and owned several farms in this vicinity. He was very liberal with his tenants, and was highly thought of by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and child.

Parkinson, residence 1736 James Ave. Co., Minneapolis; married, wife Lucetta Benton; born August 25, 1861 in Lyons County, Iowa; parents Joseph H. Parkinson and Mary Jane Allison, both born in Guelph, Canada; occupation, real estate, retired 15 years; died at home on April 25, 1924; cause, suicide by hanging.

FindaGrave.com has John Allison Parkinson; born 1862 in Eramosa, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada; died April 25, 1924, Hennepin County, Minnesota; parents Joseph H. Parkinson (1838-1923) and Mary Jane Allison Parkinson (1842-1931); buried Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.

No obituary was found in the Minneapolis Journal, April 25-17, 1924.

The marriage register for Clinton County, Iowa for 1890/1891 has groom John A. Parkinson, age 30, resident of Sioux County, a farmer, born in Iowa, parents Joseph Parkinson and Mary J. Allison; bride Mary E. Benton, age 33, resident of Elwood, Iowa, born in Clinton, [Iowa], parents George Benton and Mary Folcks[?]; married at the bride’s home at Elwood, February 5, 1891; first marriage for both. There is a Scott County, Iowa marriage register entry for groom John A. Parkinson, age 51, resident of Rock Valley, a retired farmer, born in Clinton County, Iowa, same parents; bride Loretta[? – the index calls her Lucetta] C. Benton, age 31, resident of Dewitt, Iowa, born in DeWitt, parents R. E. Benton and Susan M. Hicks; married at Davenport, Iowa November 1, 1911; his second marriage, her first.

The 1900 U.S. census has John Parkinson, age 35, born May 1864 in Iowa, parents born in Canada, a farmer, married 9 years, and wife Mary, age 41, born Aug. 1858 in Iowa, parents born in England, no children. The 1910 census has John A. Parkinson, age 48, widowed, born in Iowa, parents born in Canada, no occupation, living apparently alone in Rock Valley. In the 1920 census John A. (57), Lucetta C. (38, born in Iowa, parents born in England), and daughter Marie A. (7, born in Iowa) are living at 1203 Vincent Ave. in Minneapolis; John has no occupation.
