From the Alton Democrat, July 31, 1936, Hospers news:

HAROLD BUDD PASSES AWAY

Harold Budd, son of Rev. and Mrs. R. B. Budd, died at the St. Josephs hospital on Monday at 6:45. Harold was 15 years, 4 months and 17 days old at the time of his death. He was born March 3, 1921 at Valley, Nebr. He was 6 years old when he arrived in this city.

Harold was taken seriously ill a few weeks ago and was immediately taken to the St. Joseph’s hospital where an operation was performed on the 1st of July which showed a serious case of sinus infection. He lived in a state of coma practically on the time until his first blood transfusion. This gave him immediate strength. During his entire illness chances of recovery seemed greatest during the three days following this transfusion. Difficulty of supplying him with nourishment again forced him into a delirium. A second blood transfusion was given but to no avail.

He was active in school and outdoor life. He is survived by his parents and three[?] brothers, John, Wilfred, Robert and Frank and two sisters, Hortense and Effie Ruth.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 o’clock at the home and 1:30 o’clock at the Presbyterian church on Thursday, Rev. Grafton of Sanborn officiating assisted by Rev. Stegeman. Interment was made at Graceland cemetery in Sioux City at 4:00 o’clock. A short service was held at the cemetery.
