Mrs. Van Oort Funeral Wednesday

Van Oort, nee Anna Kathryn Elvina Gruys, were held Wednesday, May 17, at 12:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Koerselman at Matlock, and at 1:30 in the First Reformed church at Sheldon. Burial was at Orange City.

Mrs. Van Oort passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital at 4:15 Saturday afternoon, at the age of 80 years, one month and four days. She had been in ill health the past year and one half.

Born at Amsterdam, the Netherlands, April 9, 1870, she came to America at the age of 13 years. With her parents she lived northwest of Middleburg.

In 1889 she was married to John Van Oort. They farmed near Orange City and in 1928 they moved to Sheldon. Mr. Van Oort passed away in 1932, and one daughter died in infancy.

Survivors include her six children: Dreke, Mrs. John Koerselman of Matlock; Minnie, Mrs. Gerrit Bomgaars, also of Matlock; Simon Van Oort of Milford, John and Tony Van Oort of Orange City, and Wein J. Van Oort of Sheldon. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Tracy Van Enken of George; two brothers, Herman and Simon Gruys of Maple Lake, Minnesota; 24 grandchildren and 28 great- grandchildren.

For the past 18 months Mrs. Van Oort made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Koerselman, at Matlock.
