FORMER ALTON MAN DIES IN LOS ANGELES

William Van Nimwegen, formerly of Alton and Sioux City passed on at the Genera Hospital in Los Angeles Sunday, according to a message received here by his brother, Andrew Van Nimwegen.

The body will be shipped here for burial and the funeral here, as yet indefinite to the time, will be in charge of Floyd Post of the American Legion.

William was born in Alton about 55 years ago,, son of John and Martha (Zorgedrager) Van Nimwegen. “Bill” as he was known to his many friends, was employed at the local freight yard and later in Sioux City, where he was a street car conductor. He had been in California for ten years, doing railway transfer work.

Survivors include his brother here, a sister, Mrs. Kate Gesink of St. James, Minnesota; Gerrit of Rock Valley; Doris of Eagle Grove; and Harry of Minneapolis. A daughter preceded him in death, also a sister, Mayme.

He was one of the first enlisters here for the service in World War I and served overseas with the 126th Machine Gun Battalion
