Former Citizen of Alton Passes Away

Mrs. Clem Mueller of Chicago, for many years a resident of Alton, died Saturday at her home in the Illinois city. Funeral services were held Tuesday. The C. J. Mueller family came to Alton in 1907 and were well known citizens here until 12 or 14 years aso. Mr. Mueller operated the creamery here during that time. Hundreds of friends here will regret to learn of Mrs. Mueller’s death.

Her FindaGrave.com page has her as Barbara Appolonia Hillinger Mueller; born 19 June 1867 in Chicago; died 20 June 1936 in Chicago; buried in Saint Boniface Cemetery, Chicago; spouse Clement J. Mueller (1865-1948, married 1892).

The 1910 U.S. census for Alton shows Clemens J. Mueller, age 45, married 17 years, born in Illinois, parents born in Germany, creamery owner; wife Barbara A., age 42, mother of 11 children, 5 living, born in Illinois, parents born in Germany; and children Clara C. (13), Arthur P. (12), Helen A. (10), Clemens J. (8), Tessie F. (4), and Nicholas J. (1), all born in Illinois except Nicholas, born in Iowa.

The 1920 census shows them all still in Alton, where Clem is a creamery manager and their son Arthur is a restaurant clerk. In 1930 Barbara (62) and Clements J. (63) and children Tessie and Nicholas are living in Chicago; Clements is a furniture store bookkeeper, Tessie(23) a laundry bookkeeper, and Nicholas (21) a machine shop toolmaker.

The Illinois Marriage Index on Ancestry.com shows Barbara Hillinger and Clement J. Mueller, married 12 October 1892 in Cook County, Illinois.
