Henry Van Nyhuis was born in Ermelo, Netherlands. He received his schooling in the Netherlands and when a boy of 18 came to America with his parents and resided in O'Brien and Sioux County.

He married Dena Rensink of Boyden on March 1, 1901. After marriage they farmed in O'Brien and Sioux County. They had 3 daughters and one son. Daughters: Mrs. Tom Reuvers (Nell) of Sheldon, Mrs. Tony Noordhoek (Josie) of Sheldon; Mrs. Peter Tenclay (Harriet) of Primghar and Henry Jr. of Slayton, Minnesota.

Mr. Van Nyhuis devoted much of his time to flowers. He also served at one time on the Christian School Board.

He was laid to rest at Sheridan Township Cemetery, Boyden, Sioux County, Iowa.
