Alfred Van Meeveren, age 93, of Orange City, died Friday, October 4, 1996 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

A funeral service was held on Monday, October 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Reverend Steven Vander Molen and the Reverend David Ter Beest officiated. Burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home.

Alferd was born February 25, 1903 on a farm at Alton, the son of William and Minnie (Kleinhesselink) Van Meeveren. He was raised north of Alton. Upon reaching adulthood, he farmed north of Orange City.

On July 17, 1929 he married Nellie Vande Griend at Orange City. They continued to farm north of Orange City. In 1948 they moved into Orange City. "Al" retired from farming in 1965. He was a member of the First Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Ella Mae and Merle Van Klompenburg and Arlene and Jack Mouw, all of Orange City, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Arthur Van Meeveren; and two sisters, Mathilda Harmelink and Jeanette Ver Hoeven.
