Jennie Van Maanen, 93, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, May 24, 1988, in a hospital in Rock Valley.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28 in the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Reverend Paul Bakker officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held in the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mrs. Van Maanen, the former Jennie DeVries, was born July 23, 1894, in Middleburg.

She married Arie Van Maanen February 16, 1917, in Rock Valley. The couple farmed southeast of Rock Valley until 1954 when they retired and moved in to Rock Valley. Mr. Van Maanen died May 24, 1957. She moved to Valley Manor Nursing Home in 1976.

Mrs. Van Maanen was a member of Martha Circle of the First Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include two sons, Gerrit A. of Rock Valley and John A. of Lakewood, California; five daughters, Mrs. Henry (Wilmina) Winterswyk of Luverne, Minnesota, Mrs. Herman (Henrietta) Kempema and Mrs. John (Aria) Kempema, both of Rock Valley, Mrs. Fred (Harriet) Bakker of Sanborn and Mrs. Delbert (Margaret) Kuiken of Lansing, Illinois; a brother, Herbert DeVries of Escondido, California; 31 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charlie and a sister, Hattie Van Maanen.
