HENRY VAN MAANEN BURIED TUESDAY

Mr. Henry Van Maanen passed away on Friday morning at 10:15 June 12, 1953, at the age of 73 years, 10 months at his home in Hull.

He began ailing shortly after the couple had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on April 23, 1953. On Wednesday P.M. June 10, he suffered a light stroke and failed rapidly after that. With out much suffering, he quietly passed away on Friday morning. His death followed an illness of diabetes and other complications.

Obituary
Mr. Henry Van Maanen was born on August 31, 1879 in the Netherlands. At the age of 14 years he came to America, with his parents, Gerrit and Hendrikje (Van Roekel) Van Maanen.

He was a Sioux County resident most of his life, with the exception of 10 years; which was spent in California. He has been a Hull resident since 1937.

On April 23; 1903, he was united in marriage to Lucy Brunsting at Hull, Iowa.

He is survived by his loving wife and ten children, namely, Marie (Mrs. Jno. J. Warntjes) of Hull, Hattie (Mrs. W. E. Lyons) of Bellflower, California; Albert of Grant's Pass, Oregon; Grace (Mrs.H. A. Davis) of Bell, California; Gertrude (Mrs. H. Vander Laan) of Grant's Pass, Oregon; Margaret (Mrs. Joe Hampton) of Bell, California; Gerrit of Bellflower, California; Lucille (Mrs. Clifford Crandall); Jeanette (Mrs. William Post) of Orange City: Henry Jr. of Hull; and 22 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Catherine (Mrs. August Jansma) on March 27, 1938, and an infant granddaughter, Donna Rae Post. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Van Maanen, Grace (Mrs. C. Hoff); Dena (Mrs. G. Kosters); Margaret (Mrs. J. Van Wyhe), and a brother Dick, also preceded him.

He is now survived by three brothers, Ed, Arie and Bert, and five sisters: Nettie (Mrs. Jno. Van Sloten); Hattie (Mrs. Bert Jacobsma); Lucy (Mrs. Herman Zwak); Bertha (Mrs. Jake Baartman); Annie (Mrs. Sam Kooima), and his aged step-mother Mrs. E. De Leeuw.

Funeral services were held on June 16, one o'clock from the house and at 1:30 from the Christian Reformed Church in Hull, in charge of his pastor, Reverend H. C. Van Deelen. Interment was in the Hope Cemetery at Hull.

Six nephews acted as pallbearers, namely: Henry D. Van Maanen, Gerrit A. Van Maanen, John E. Van Maanen, Art Van Wyhe, Bill Van Wyhe, Gerrit Van Sloten.
