Mr. Evert "Ed" Van Maanen, 70 years of age, of Hull, died Sunday, July 23, 1961, at the Sioux Center Community hospital, following a lingering illness.

Mr. Van Maanen was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Van Maanen. He was born in the Netherlands on October 3, 1890. He came to America at the age of one and a half years with his parents and four sisters.

They settled at Alton, Iowa, later moving to Sioux Center, Iowa. The past fourteen years he lived in Hull, Iowa. He was a retired farmer.

On February 21, 1914, he married Maggie Mulder and to this union nine children were born.

Mrs. Van Maanen died on March 10, 1953, His parents and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Survivors are the following children, Ella (Mrs. Andrew Meendering) of Ellsworth, Minnesota; Bert of Doon, Iowa; Roy of Inwood, Iowa; Tom of Hull, Iowa; Mina (Mrs. Ted Hoekstra) of Rock Valley, Iowa; Edward of Doon. Iowa; Margaret (Mrs. Donald Hoekstra) of Hull, Iowa; Harold of Hull, Iowa; Jane (Mrs. Henry Hoksbergen) of Boyden, Iowa. He also leaves one brother, John, and six sisters, Mrs. Cornelius Wassink, Mrs. Gerben De Jong, Mrs. Conrad Hulstein, Mrs. John Rens, Mrs. Henry Vis and Mrs. Ben Bleyenberg; also 42 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church.
