From the Rock Valley Bee, May 2, 1924:

The remains of L. D. Long, who died at his home at Sanborn Friday [April 25] from paralysis, were brought to Rock Valley Tuesday for burial in the Valley View Cemetery. Mr. Long was eighty one years old. He had lived in Rock Valley on different occasions and always made friends wherever he was known.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Long, J. D., b. 1842, d. 1924, Father, Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley, IA.

His death certificate gives his full name as Johnathan D. Long; wife Amanda Long; born 15 October 1842 in Wisconsin; parents Samuel Long, born in Pennsylvania, and Elsie Danels; occupation, retired photographer; died at Sanborn at 11 a.m. April 25, 1924; cause, general debility; contributory cause, very faint but looks like Hiccough, duration 6 days; buried at Rock Valley.

The Osceola County marriage register entry for their son Ira J. gives his parents as J. D. Long and Amanda Bradley.

The 1880 U.S. census for British Hollow, Grant county, Wisconsin shows Johnathan D. Long (37), born in Wisconsin, a photographer; wife Amanda (28), born in Canada; and sons Raleigh (13), Harvey E. (11), and Ira (8), all born in Wisconsin. The 1910 census for Sanborn, O’Brien County, Iowa has Long (or Longs), Jonathan (65), born in Wisconsin, a photographer, married 40 years; wife Amanda M. (56), born in Canada, mother of 3 children, 3 living; and son Ira J. (34), born in Wisconsin, an odd jobs laborer.
