Tony Van Hill, Alvord, Iowa, age 88, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31 at the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, Iowa with burial at Valley View Cemetery. Reverend G.M de Leeuw was the officiant.

Tony was born January 4, 1915 southwest of Alvord, Iowa, son of Gilbert and Christina (Wallenburg) Van Hill.

Tony married Henrietta Roskam on November 17, 1938 in Larchwood, Iowa. Together they lived on the parents farm for one year before farming 14 years near Larchwood, and then farmed near Alvord and operated Alvord Service in the early 1960's.

Tony later worked at Niessink Implement in Rock Rapids, Iowa and Farmers Elevator at Alvord; Tony enjoyed fishing and teaching his family to fish at Silver Lake and enjoyed woodcrafts.

Surviving relatives include his wife Henrietta; two sons and their wives: Gilbert and Marlene, Kenneth and Jane, all of Alvord; one daughter and her husband, Shirley and Dean Domeyer of Ellsworth, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers: Al Van Hill and Joe Van Hill both of Rock Rapids, Bud and his wife Geneva Van Hill of Inwood, Iowa; one sister, Christina Kroon of Rock Rapids; two sister-in-laws, Grace Van Hill of Rock Valley and Jeanette Wallenburg of Bellflower, California.

Tony was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Donald and Gilbert; 3 sisters, Gertrude Ackkerman, Gertie Timmerman and Marie Van Hill; son-in-law, Daryl Oltmans, grandson, Daryl Ray Oltmans.
