William Van Engen of Sioux Center passed away at the hospital at Anamosa, Iowa very suddenly on Thursday afternoon January 27, 1944 at the age of 20 years and seven months. He had undergone a hernia and tonsil operation and blood clot formed and he passed away very unexpectedly.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Tena (Van Roekel) Van Engen and six sisters and five brothers namely Mrs. Joe Bakker of Sibley, Mrs. Nick Cuperus of Sheldon, Mrs. Mitchell Vander Veen of Hull, Abe Van Engen of Sheldon, John Van Engen of Sanborn, Mrs. Jake Vos of Sioux Center, Gerrit Van Engen who is in the service at New Guinea, George who is in the service at Camp Maxton, North Carolina, Albert Van Engen of Sheldon and Mina and Tena Van Engen who make their home at Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister who passed away in infancy and by his father who died in February 1939.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed church on Tuesday afternoon with the Reverend Arnoys officiating. Burial was made in the Orange City Cemetery.

George Van Engen arrived home from North Carolina on Sunday afternoon to attend the funeral services.
