MRS. TENA VAN ENGEN

Funeral services for Mrs. Tena Van Engen, 75, of Sibley were held June 9 at the Walton's Funeral home and First Reformed Church of Sibley. Burial was in the Orange City Cemetery.

Mrs. Van Engen passed away Saturday, June 6, at the Osceola Community Hospital after a lingering illness.

She was born at Orange City November 8, 1888, to Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Van Roekel. She grew up in Sioux County where she was married to John Van Engen on February 28, 1908.

They farmed in that community until 1925 when they moved to the Archer-Sanborn area. They moved to Sioux Center in 1936. Her husband passed away here on February 25, 1939.

She moved to Sibley in 1944 where she had since resided.

There were 14 children born to this union, three of whom preceded her in death, Gerrit, Alice and William. Also preceding her were her husband, four grandchildren, her parents, four brothers and a sister,

Surviving children are Mrs. Joe (Gertrude) Baker of Worthington, Minnesota, Mrs. Nick (Nancy) Cuperus of Sheldon, Mrs. Mitchell (Clazina) Vander Veen of Sanborn, Abe of Sheldon, John of Orange City, Mrs. Jake (Johanna) Vos of Sibley, Gerrit of Sioux Center, George of Sibley, Albert of Sanborn, Mrs. Cornie (Hermina) Van Kley of Sanborn, and Mrs. Norman (Tina) Buysman of Estherville.

She is also survived by 41 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three brothers, George of Sheldon, Tony of Sibley and Henry of Boyden; and two sisters, Mrs. D.J. Fransen of Sibley and Mrs. Harry Rensink of Boyden.
