Tony Levermann Dies In Oregon

Anthony Levermann, a former resident of Alton, died at his farm home near Aumsville, in the vicinity of Salem, Oregon, on Tuesday, Jan. 7th, according to a message received by his daughter, Mrs. Louis Goebel of Alton. Mrs. Goebel left the same day for Oregon to attend the funeral which will be held at the Catholic church at Sublimity, Oregon.

Mr. Levermann with his family left Alton over 35 years ago after engaging in the carpenter trade here for some years, and bought a farm near Salem, where he has since resided. Mrs. Levermann died two years ago. Children surviving are Henry Levermann of Salem, Oregon; Marie, Mrs. L. T. Goebel, Alton, Iowa; Katherine, Mrs. James Tompson of Winnipeg, Man., Canada; Mathilda, Mrs. R. Barnard, Cheney, Wash.; Miss Anne, Portland, Oregon; and Tony, at home.

FindaGrave.com has a photo of his and his wife’s joint headstone: Father, Anton Levermann, June 12, 1858 – Jan. 7, 1936; Mother, Maria Levermann, Apr. 12, 1857 – Feb. 12, 1929. The page gives his full name as Franz Anton Georg Levermann; buried in Saint Boniface Cemetery, Sublimity, Marion County, Oregon. It gives his father as Heinrich Joseph Levermann (1829-1896); his spouse as Maria Elisabeth Henke Levermann; and lists one sibling, Frank Anton Levermann (1861-1941) and one child, Marie Kathryn Levermann Goebel (1889-1955).

The 1930 U.S. census for Aumsville, Marion County, Oregon, has Antone Leverman, age 71, widowed, born in Westphalen, Germany, immigrated in 1883, naturalized. He lives with his son, Anthony G., age 30, born in Oregon, a farmer, and Anthony’s wife Frederica M. age 22, born in Oregon. They are evidently newlyweds, since their ages at first marriage are also 30 and 22.
