Mr. Gerry Noordhoek, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at the Sanford Health Sheldon Care Center in Sheldon.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 7, at 3:00pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday, at 1:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation with the family will be on Friday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Gerry Anthony was born on August 20, 1937, on his family’s farm near Sheldon, the son of Teunis “Tony” Anthony and Trintje (Vlaming) Noordhoek. He was raised on the farm and attended the Sheldon public school through the eighth grade, and later earned his GED. While in Sheldon, he was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church, and worked at the lumber yard and the grain elevator.

On October 8, 1956, he married Deanna Edith Kroese. They made their home in Sheldon until moving to Sioux Center in the early 1970’s. They were members of the First Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon. He worked as the produce manager for Hy-Vee for many years, and later drove bus for the Sioux Center Community School District. He also operated his own small business, Gerry’s Refinishing. He and Deanna were foster parents to many children, from babies to teenagers. Deanna passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 1997, after more than forty years of marriage.

On April 22, 2000, he married Wanda Darlene (Peuse) Stubbe, in Orange City, where they made their home and were members of the First Reformed Church. Gerry participated in Bible studies, volunteering at the Dutch Heritage Museum, helping at the Pioneer Memorial Home at night, and he enjoyed repairing things that had been donated to the Bibles for Missions store.

Survivors include his wife of more than nineteen years; three daughters, Kim, and her husband, Bob Vander Ploeg, of Hiawatha; Robin, and her husband, Verlyn Mulder, of Sioux Center; and Jill Noordhoek, of Johnston; four grandchildren, Kevin Mulder, and his wife, Jessica; Steven Mulder, and his wife, Nicole; Sara Vander Ploeg; and Brian Vander Ploeg; three sisters, Wilma Schnieder, Margaret Reekers, and Greta Wildeman; and a brother and his wife, Paul and Gladys Noordhoek.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William “Sonny” Noordhoek, and Bernard Noordhoek, and his wife, Bertie; and three brothers-in-law, Harold Schnieder, George Reekers, and Arnie Wildeman.
