Mrs. Arlene Oolman, age 91, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019, at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, December 3, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Arlene Yvonne was born on March 16, 1928, in Orange City, the daughter of Peter R. and Roelvina “Ruth” (Cleveringa) Wielenga. She was raised at Orange City, where she attended the Christian grade school and graduated from the Orange City High School.

On May 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Orville John Oolman at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. They first made their home in Orange City, before moving to the Oolman farm west of town, where they raised their family. In addition to being a homemaker, Arlene also worked at Gary’s Market, DaMar Implement, and at K-Products, all in Orange City. In 1993, they retired from farming and returned to Orange City. Orville passed away on November 1, 2001, in Orange City after more than 54 years of marriage.

In 2009, Arlene moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City, where she participated in their activities and enjoyed playing cards with the other residents. In October of this year, she became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, and in November she transferred to the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Mrs. Oolman was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. She liked to bake and was known for making delicious Christmas candy and chocolate cakes.

Survivors include her four children, Larry Oolman, and his wife, Glenda, of Hull; Bonita Roos, of North Liberty; Pamela, and her husband, Ronald Smith, of Hudsonville, Michigan; and Randall Oolman, and his wife, Brenda, of Orange City; twelve grandchildren, Jake Roos, and his wife, Jamie; Chad Oolman; Ben Roos, and his wife, Megan; Charlie Roos, and his wife Cora; Tony Roos; Lori, and her husband, Darin Uhl; Pete Roos; Jordan Smith; Cody Anderson; Zach Oolman; Brittini Oolman; and Jared Oolman; eight great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Wilmar and Beverly Wielenga, of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Wielenga, of Denver, Colorado.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Roos; and two brothers, Raymond Wielenga, and his wife, Joyce; and Peter Wielenga, Jr.

Memorials may be directed to the First Reformed Church Building Fund.
