Mr. Robert Kleinhesselink, age 77, of Orange City, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at his residence.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 7, at 10:30am, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Michael Hardeman will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Robert LeRoy was born on November 1, 1942, in Orange City, the son of William “Bill” and Gertrude (Smit) Kleinhesselink. He was raised in Orange City, where he attended high school.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Appeldorn, on March 1, 1964, in Germantown, Iowa. They made their home in Orange City, where they were members of the American Reformed Church.

In his younger years, “Bob” worked for J&R Body Shop, the Standard Station, Silent Sioux Manufacturing, and as a carpenter for Pete and Jon Jeltema. In the late 1960’s, he used his inheritance to purchase a new saw and planer and started his own carpentry business, which he operated for 47 years.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, bird watching, and was handy at fixing just about anything. He was always willing to lend a hand and often helped his children, friends, and neighbors.

Survivors include his wife of more than 55 years; three sons, Jim Kleinhesselink, and Jeff Kleinhesselink, and his wife, Tracy, all of Alton; Jason Kleinhesselink, of Orange City, and his friend, Matt Cihak, of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Bradley Kleinhesselink, and his girlfriend, Chandler Brons, of Ireton; and Kendra Kleinhesselink, of Alton; two brothers, George Kleinhesselink, of Orange City, and Walt Kleinhesselink, of LeMars; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois, and her husbands, Harold Draayer and Keith Mitchell; and Betty, and her husband, Clarence Jasper; and two sisters-in-law, Verjean Kleinhesselink and Donna Kleinhesselink.
