Louis Vander Schaaf passed away suddenly at his home Thursday afternoon June 13 after an illness of several months.

He was born on April 13, 1896 having reached the age of 50 years and two months. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Schaafsma and six children---Gertrude, Mrs. H. Jacobs; Anna Beth, Mrs. Ring Kleinhesselink; Donna, Joe, Thomas and Gary Louis; three grandchildren and two brothers--Gerrit of Hospers and Wilbur of Omaha. Mr. Vander Schaaf was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vander Schaaf. He was married December 17, 1919, resided and passed away in the same home place, five, miles west of Hospers, in which he was born. He served in World War Number 1 and was a member of the American Legion. Members of the Reuter Post had charge of the rites at the cemetery.

Funeral services were held Saturday at one o'clock from the home and 1:30 from the Newkirk Reformed Church of which he was a member. Reverend Z. Roetman of Orange City officiating. Interment was in the Newkirk Cemetery.
