Funeral services for Garrett Vander Schaaf, 58, were held at 1:30 P.M. at the Newkrik Reformed church with Reverend C. Greving officiating.

Mr. Vander Schaaf died Thursday morning at the LeMars hospital after an illness of one and a half years.

He was born on a farm two miles west of Newkirk, the son of Gertrude (Vande Stouwe) and Joe Vander Schaaf.

On February 12, 1918 he was married to Gertrude Hofmeyer of Newkirk and they lived in this vicinity until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant children and a brother, Louis.

Mr. Vander Schaaf was greatly interested in children and during the last twenty years many youngsters from the Winnebago Nebraska Indian Reservation spent the summer months at the Vander Schaaf farm.

He is survived by the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Van Zanten of Newkirk; a foster daughter, Mrs. Arthur Vander Pol, also of Newkirk, a brother Wilbur of Omaha and three grandsons.

Burial was in the Newkirk Cemetery and services from the Newkirk Reformed Church of which he was a life long member.
