From the Sioux Center Nieuwsblad, June 14, 1922:

Hedenmorgen overleed de oude Jacob Mulder in den ouderdom van [illegible] 84 jaren (Op 1 April werd hij 84 jari) De begrafenis zal Vrijdag plaatshebben om twee uur van uit de woning noord van town. Mulder wordt overleefd door zijne vrouw en twee kinderen uit een eerste huwelijk, H. Mulder van Steen en Mrs. Mustbergen[?] van Sheldon. En zijn geen kinderen uit bet tweede huwelijk maar Mrs. Mulder heeft vijf kinderen uit haar eerste huwelijk. Alle kleinkinderen (der eigen en de stiefkinderen) maken ongeveer een getal van 50.

TRANSLATION:

This morning old Jacob Mulder died at the age of 84 years (on April 1 he turned 84 years old). The funeral will take place on Friday at two o’clock from the house north of town. Mulder is survived by his wife and two children from a first marriage, H. Mulder of Steen and Mrs. Mustbergen[?] of Sheldon. There are no children from the second marriage but Mrs. Mulder has five children from her first marriage. All grandchildren (his own and the stepchildren) number approximately 50.

Verl. week werd de oude Jacob Mulder grafwaarts gebracht. Van elders waren ter begrafenis. Hendrik Mulder van Steen, H. Mastberg van Sheldon, met vrouw en 5 kinderen en schoonzoon; Mrs. Jerry Scheerhoorn van Sanborn met zoon en dochter, G. Boer met vrouw en drie kinderen van Wentworth, S.D., C. T. De Boom en gezin van Round Lake, Mrs. J. Mulder en zoon van Perkins, A. De Boom en gezin van Hull, John Ketel en vrouw van Orange City, H. Vander Veeht en vrouw van Rock Valley.

TRANSLATION

Last week old Jacob Mulder was brought to the grave. Those from elsewhere who attended the funeral were Hendrik Mulder of Steen; H. Mastberg of Sheldon, with wife and 5 children and son-in-law; Mrs. Jerry Scheerhoorn of Sanborn with son and daughter; G. Boer with wife and three children from Wentworth, S.D.; C. T. De Boom and family from Round Lake, Mrs. J. Mulder and son of Perkins; A. De Boom and family of Hull, John Ketel and wife of Orange City, H. Vander Veeht and wife of Rock Valley.

RESEARCH NOTES

He was not found in the Sioux County Cemetery Index. His FindaGrave page shown him born 1 April 1838 in Epe, Gelderland, Netherlands, died 14 June 1922 in Sioux Center, buried in Memory Gardens Sioux Center Cemetery. His spouses are given as Jannetje Bronkhorst Mulder (1839-1889, married 1867) and Lubbechje Duim Boer Mulder (1849-1935, married 1893). Four children are listed: Della Mulder Kuhl (1868-1909), Dirkje Mulder (1868-1909), Henry Mulder (1875-1956), and Alice Mulder Mastbergen (1877-1937). (Della “Dirkje” Mulder Kuhl and Dirkje Mulder appear to be the same person.)

His death certificate gives his birth date as April 1, 1838 in the Netherlands; parents names unknown to the informant, Peter Proper; 50 years in the U.S., 25 years in Sioux Center; husband of Lubijc Duim; died at 5:45 a.m. June 14, 1922; cause, “Auto intocation” [probably autointoxication, poisoning by a toxin formed within the body], duration 6 days.

It also has a marriage index entry for groom Jacob Mulder, a farmhand, age 29, parents Jan Mulder, a day-laborer, and Dirkje Kamphuis; bride Jannetje Bronkhorst, age 27, parents Jan Berends Bronkhorst and Aaltje Gerrets Kamper; married 26 October 1867 in Apeldoorn, Gelderland.

The Sioux County marriage register for 1892/1893 shows groom Jacob Muller, age 52, a farmer, residence West Branch Township, born in the Netherlands, parents Jan Muller and Dertje Kamphuis; bride Lubbigje De Boer, maiden name Lubbigje Duim, age 46, resident of West Branch Township, born in the Netherlands, parents Hendrik Duim and Katherine Mulder; married at Sioux Center April 12, 1893, second marriage for both.
