Auke Vander Pol, former Alton resident, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Hoffs, in Sheldon May 11th. Mr. Vander Pol was a brother of the late Mrs. S. Van Zandbergen and the family came to Alton from the Netherlands.

Funeral services were held at the Hoffs home and at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Reverend Vis officiating. Burial was in Nassau Township Cemetery here. After the grave side services in charge of Reverend Vis, relatives were entertained at lunch at the Pantry Cafe with Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Schollen as hosts. Those from Alton attending the service were Martin Dykstra, Mr. and and Mrs. Scholten, Mrs. Pete Keizer.

Mr. Vander Pol was born in Achlum, The Netherlands December 11, 1862, son of Atjie and Boukje (Wiersma) Vander Pol and was 85 years and five months old at the time of his death. He married Anna Rindertsma April 14, 1888 and shortly thereafter came to the United States, settling at Alton. They lived in town for a time, then moved to a farm south of Alton, later to Newkirk and to Sheldon 29 years ago. Since the death of his wife 11 years ago, Mr. Vander Pol resided with his daughter.

Children born to them were Fred, who died during World War I in 1918; Otto, Harry, Nick, Grace (Mrs. Hoffs), Dowie, Bertha (Mrs. Ralph Erkes) and Mike. There are 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
